As the saying goes a good day start with good breakfast! Our next destination brings us to a new cafe suggested by my sister to bring my big aunt (a lady with sophisticated palate) and my grandma to Breakfast Thieves in Bangsar. Let the review begin!
Mr. Terry Benedict
I have to say using fried lotus slice to replace chips is a creative endeavor. Overall it is quite a standard egg benedict. However there is slight disappointment as one of the egg yolk has turned hard boiled instead of runny yolk.

I have to admit the presentation at this cafe is better than the rest I have been so far. The concept of marrying udon with tomyum is creative but I personally feel they place too much ingredients and make the fusion dish lost its identity. A tomyum flavor profile dish should emphasize on spicy and sour. For instance they added generous amount of tauge (sweet in nature) plus the umami flavor of the seafood has interrupted the soup base especially the soup is mild. You can add on RM5 for Karage Chicken which taste quite well.

Return of Uncle Foo
The name of this dish reflects the return of something legendary which correlates exactly on the taste. Both the potato and sweet potato fries are well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Their mayonaise is smooth and rich in flavor which I can rarely find outside. The bun is soft coupled with perfectly fried soft shell crab make this dish a thumbs up.
One thing we Malaysians will agree is that we love our holidays and Selamat Hari Raya! A short food hunting trip is a must and here we go!
We started our journey slightly late at 8.30pm due to my sudden nature’s call (sorry everyone!) and we stop by Pasar Besar Seremban for our breakfast before continue our journey down south.
Beef Noodle (Soup)
Their famous beef noodle soup. It is pity the organs are unavailable thus we will have to just go with only the meat 🙁
Beef Noodle (Dry)
This is a must stop for me whenever I travel down south for work or other states. The beef stock is rich and flavorful from long hours of boiling the bones and the broth is enhanced by adding in the meat and other parts before serving to you. Remember to try the dry version as it offers for a more packed umami flavor compared to the soup version!
Price: 9/10 Taste: 10/10 Summary: Mesti Makan! Just another story to share, this uncle shop is the only shop that survive a flame accident from the market and the market is currently undergoing refurbishment. You can find the stall at the corner near the parking lot and easy to spot.
WILD CORIANDER @ Malacca City
So we decided to try this nyonya restaurant recommended by our friend upon reaching malacca.
The cendol lacks gula melaka and santan. The starter did not give me a good first impression.
The staff recommended the rojak but sauce flavor is mild and viscosity did not live up to expectation….
Udang Masak Lemak Nenas
Just as hope is lost, finally something good is up. Their signature Udang Masak Lemak Nenas is good. Thick curry sauce with fresh prawn and savory pineapple.
A must order and not a common dish you can find everywhere. The brinjal is grilled and serve with sauce comprises of grated coconut flesh giving it a very interesting texture and taste profile

This is the best, satisfied and most worth it meal for this short trip!
French Bean with Salted Egg Yolk
The french bean goes through a quick deep fry before tossed in salted egg yolk. You can still taste the french bean sweetness enveloped by the crispy outer layer! Superb!
Homemade Tofu in Pumpkin Sauce
Needless to say the taufu is soft and fragrant. The pumpkin sauce give the whole dish a great smooth silky texture and especially fragrant with the curry leaves added! Oishi!
Thai Style Claypot Pork
The curry sauce is thick and best eaten with rice! The fish is fresh as well and they uses good quality fish namely red snapper! You can choose to have Fish Head, Fish Meat or Fish Tail. They also give you an option for Prawn Curry instead if you do not prefer fish but trust me its good!
Fish Head Steamboat
This is the bomb! A must order of you were to come here! The difference they between the rest I ever had is they are generous with the evaporated milk giving a smooth milky texture. They also uses dong guai to give it a herbal taste and dry chili for a spicy after taste! The broth is rich in umami and uses fresh red snapper so don’t worry about any fishy smell! This soup will surely give you a satisfying ending for your meal!
Price: 10/10 Taste: 10/10 Verdict: Go for it! Quality is assured as the owner himself is the head chef ensuring every dish coming out from the kitchenis presentable and edible.
As someone born in Ipoh, it is undeniable food hunting is the most important things to do beside exploring caves and staying in cool thematic chalets. Let the gluttony begins!
1. Curry Chee Cheong Fun @ Pasar Kampung Simee
My Favourite Chee Cheong Fun Stall in my hometown Pasar Kampung Simee. All of these at only RM4.50! So worth it and most importantly delicious!

2. Fai Kee Fish Head Noodle @ Medan Selera Stadium Perak
My family’s favorite Fish Head Noodle spot located in Medan Selera Ipoh beside Stadium Perak. The golden fried fish enhances the soup flavour when served. The soup broth itself is packed with umami cooked with leftover fish bones. They are very selective in the ingredients and the salted vegetables are sourced from nearby market than using those in hypermarket! I would come back again anytime and they rival side by side with my favourite fish head noodle shop in PJ!

3. Pork Innard Porridge @ Medan Selera Stadium Perak
Besides fish head noodle, another thing not to miss from Fai Kee is their Pork Innard Porridge. We had 2 large bowls as one is not enough! The porridge has thick and fragrant viscosity and even as someone who didn’t really enjoy innards, I really like the porridge

4. Bean Sprout Chicken @ Lou Wong
My family usually patronage Onn Kei but this time, we have decided to try Lou Wong to see the differences between these 2 famous brands
They only have kampung chicken. Expect nothing less on this old brand. Chicken meat is springy topped with fragrant soy sauce.
Their noodle and soup base is good but I personally feel Onn Kei is better
One thing special about ipoh bean sprout is fat has sweeter than your usual tauge due to abundance of hard water rich in mineral content from limestone hills.
Their chicken leg is fantastic! Besides smooth and easy to consume, they have added in dong guai herb into the braising process thus further enhancing the chicken leg flavour!
